Lewontin's finding (1972)
Richard Lewontin's landmark analysis found that there is more genetic variation within traditionally defined "racial" groups than there is between them. In other words, two people from the same "race" can be more genetically different from each other than either is from someone of a different "race" — undermining the idea that races are meaningfully distinct genetic clusters.

Clinal variation: the key concept

The American Anthropological Association's 1998 Statement on Race concluded that race is a cultural, political, and social phenomenon — not a biological one. Health disparities often attributed to "race" are now understood to actually reflect the effects of racism itself: chronic stress, unequal access to healthcare, and environmental conditions — not innate biological difference.
