The suffix often tells you
"-olol" = beta blocker, "-pril" = ACE inhibitor, "-statin" = lipid-lowering (HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor). Recognizing these suffix patterns lets you reason about an unfamiliar specific drug name by identifying its class.
2 — Mechanism
What does it do to the body?
Understanding the general mechanism of a drug class (what receptor it affects, what pathway it works through) is what allows reasoning about side effects and monitoring even for a specific drug you haven't individually memorized.
3 — Side Effects
What's most dangerous? What should the patient report?
Rather than memorizing an exhaustive list of every possible side effect, focus on identifying the single most dangerous one and what should specifically prompt the patient to report a concern.
4 — Nursing Considerations
Monitor, teach, or hold for what?
What specific parameter needs monitoring, what does the patient need to be taught, and under what circumstance should the medication be held rather than given?

None of this required memorizing the specific drug by name — reasoning from the class covered the clinically relevant information.
